Tanyth Berkeley in the New York Times

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Although the summer of 2009 still sounds like a vague point in the distant future, we are very excited for the arrival of next June and July, when Quality Pictures presents the Northwest debut of Tanyth Berkeley. The New York photographer’s color portraits were the standout of last year’s New Photography show at the Museum of Modern Art—and we are evidently not the only ones to think so. In today’s review of the current New Photography exhibition, the New York Times singles out Berkeley’s “portraits of unconventionally beautiful albino and transgendered women” as the standout work of 2007’s show. We are all too happy to agree.

Find an interview with Berkeley and a selection from her “Orchidaceae” series here. Her exhibition at Quality Pictures runs from June 4-Aug 1, 2009.
